Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Salons in Canada ("we", "us") handles information when you visit the website, browse salon listings, contact us, or submit or claim a salon listing. It describes the kinds of information that may be involved, how it may be used, and the choices you have. This policy is written in plain language and does not replace legal advice.

Information visitors may provide

When you browse the directory, you do not need to create an account or provide personal details to search for salons, read listings, or view services.

If you use the contact form, you may provide your name, email address, the reason for your message, a subject, and the message itself. You also confirm that you consent to be contacted about your message.

Information salon owners may provide

Salon owners can create an owner account and submit or claim listings. The information owners may provide includes:

  • Account information used for sign-up and sign-in, such as your full name, business name, email address, password, an optional phone number, and your city and province.
  • Salon submission information provided through the Add Salon form, such as salon name, owner or contact name, business email, phone, street address, city, province, postal code, optional website, booking link, opening hours, the main category, and a short description.
  • Claim information provided through the Claim Salon form, such as the salon name, an optional listing URL, owner full name, business email, phone, an optional website, city, province, a proof method, and a message.
  • Upgrade and change requests submitted through the owner area, such as a requested paid plan or a change request for your listing.

Listing information intended for public display

Some information you submit is meant to appear publicly on a salon listing. This public business information may include the salon name, address, city, province, postal code, phone, website, a short description, listed services and categories, working hours, booking link, ratings, and a Google Maps link or embed when available. Paid plans may add promotional media, social-media links, and other plan features.

Information that remains private

Certain information is private and is not shown on public listings. This includes owner account details such as your password, private email address used for account management, and private administrative data such as ownership verification records, review notes, and internal submission metadata. We aim to keep private account information separate from the public listing information that appears on the website.

Automatically collected information

When you visit the website, basic technical information may be collected automatically by the website's hosting, security, and browser technologies, and by analytics or advertising services. This may include your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages visited, approximate geographic location, and timestamps.

How submitted information may be reviewed

When you submit a salon, claim a listing, request an upgrade, or contact us, the information you provide may be reviewed before any action is taken. Submissions and claims may be reviewed, edited, rejected, suspended, or removed. Review information itself is kept private and is not published.

How information may be used

Information may be used to:

  • Operate, secure, improve, and maintain the directory
  • Review submissions, claims, and change requests
  • Publish public listing details
  • Respond to messages and requests
  • Measure how the website is used
  • Serve advertising
  • Prevent misuse and protect the website and its users

Google Analytics

The website uses Google Analytics on public pages to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics may collect information such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, and how long you spend on a page. It may use cookies or similar technologies to do this. The website's integration does not add form values or other personal details to Analytics events and does not run Analytics on admin or private owner-account pages.

You can learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

This website uses Google AdSense and may use other third-party advertising vendors to display ads. These vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also visit www.aboutads.info to opt out of personalised advertising by other third-party vendors that may use cookies for ad serving.

Third-party vendors and ad networks may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and similar identifiers to collect information for the purpose of measuring ad performance and serving advertising relevant to your interests. Each third-party vendor or ad network has its own privacy policy.

Authentication and data storage

Owner accounts are managed through a third-party authentication service. Account credentials are handled securely by that provider and are not stored in plain text by Salons in Canada. Listing data and account records are stored using a third-party cloud database service. Each of these services operates under its own privacy practices.

Hosting

The website is served by a third-party hosting provider that may process server access logs, including IP addresses and request information, as part of delivering and securing the site.

Cookies and similar technologies

The website and the services behind it may use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, to remember preferences such as your language, to understand how pages are used, and to serve advertising. Your browser may also share standard technical details such as device and browser type. You can usually control or delete cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect how parts of the website work.

Where consent is required for non-essential cookies, the website will request that consent through a Google-certified consent message once the site's Google Privacy & Messaging configuration has been activated.

Retention of information

We keep information only as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy — to respond to requests, to operate and secure the directory, to maintain accounts, or as required by law or record-keeping obligations. When information is no longer needed for these purposes, it is deleted or anonymised where practical.

Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect information, including separating private account information from public listing data and reviewing submissions before publication. However, no website or system can be guaranteed completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information will never be exposed as a result of factors outside our control.

Children's privacy

The directory is intended for a general audience. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children as part of account creation, listings, or contact forms. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us so we can look into it.

  • Access, correction, and deletion: Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information. We will review reasonable requests, noting that we may need to keep certain information to operate the directory or meet legal obligations.

Corrections or removal requests for salon listings

If you want to correct a detail on a salon listing, or if you believe a listing is inaccurate or should not be published, you can submit a claim or change request, or contact us through the contact page. Removal or correction of public listing information may be subject to review.

External websites

Salon listings may link to external websites, booking systems, maps, and social platforms. When you follow one of these links, you leave this website and are subject to that third party's own privacy practices. We do not control external websites and are not responsible for how they handle your information.

Cross-border processing

Some of the third-party services used by this website may process information in countries other than Canada. By using the website, you acknowledge that your information may be processed in jurisdictions with different privacy laws. We aim to use service providers that maintain appropriate safeguards for the information they process.
