BIAB means Builder In A Bottle, a trademarked brush-on builder-gel system from The GelBottle Inc.
Explanation
The name is often used casually for bottled builder gel, but not every builder gel is BIAB. The product is thicker and more structural than ordinary gel polish and is normally cured under the lamp specified for the system. It can support an overlay on the natural nail; the exact products, permitted length, infill method, and removal process depend on the system used.
What happens during a BIAB service
After nail and cuticle preparation, the technician applies compatible base or builder layers and creates structure where the nail needs support. Each layer is cured with the lamp and timing required by the product system. Colour or nail art may be added, but it is not included in every BIAB booking.
An overlay follows the natural nail length. Some builder systems can also support short extensions, but that should be confirmed when booking because it changes the service time and technique.
BIAB compared with other systems
Gel polish is mainly a thin colour-and-finish layer. Builder gel is thicker and used to create an apex or reinforce the nail. Acrylic is a separate liquid-and-powder system that hardens without a curing lamp. Hard gel is another structural option and may need to be filed rather than soaked off.
Because salons sometimes use BIAB as a generic menu label, ask for the manufacturer and product name. That tells you more about compatible lamps, infill options, and removal than the menu heading alone.
Maintenance and nail safety
Growth at the cuticle eventually changes the balance of an overlay, so the technician may recommend an infill or removal based on nail length and condition. Do not peel or pick off lifted gel; that can remove surface layers from the natural nail.
Uncured gel should be kept off the skin and fully cured as directed. If redness, itching, swelling, or persistent nail changes occur, stop using the product and seek appropriate professional advice.
