Buzz Cut

Clipper guard numbers refer to attachments, but the actual length and result should be confirmed because equipment and cutting direction can affect the finish. Ask the barber to show where the cut will sit and whether the hairline will be left natural or edged sharply.

A slightly longer top can create a crew-cut-like shape, while a fade changes the sides more dramatically. Showing a photo and naming the preferred shortest area is clearer than asking only for a number.

Cowlicks and differences in density can create light or dark patches at very short lengths. The scalp will receive more direct sun exposure and existing irritation may be easier to see. Mention bumps, sensitivity, or areas you do not want cut with a foil shaver.

A buzz cut can reduce styling time, but it does not make every growth pattern look uniform. The barber can suggest a slightly longer guard or a taper where a close cut would emphasize an uneven area.

In the project's 2026 sample of advertised menus across nine Canadian cities, barber and clipper cuts were commonly listed at $25 to $55 before tax and gratuity. This category includes more than buzz cuts and is not a national average. A fade, design, beard service, wash, or senior barber may change the price.

Small differences in length become visible quickly on a buzz cut. A uniform cut may be straightforward to refresh, while a shaped or faded version requires the blend and outline to be rebuilt. If growing it out, periodic neckline and side cleanup can keep the transition intentional.
